Why furious fans are declaring J.K. Rowling ‘dead’

The author, 55, has penned a book called Troubled Blood slated for release this week about a male serial killer who dresses as a woman while on violent killing sprees.

A day before the book’s release, fans and foes lambasted Rowling, who has previously made a slew of controversial comments about the transgender community, and declared her “dead” by sending #RIPJKRowling to the top of the Twitter trending charts.

“In memory of jk rowling. she ain’t dead, but she killed her own career by proudly hating trans people & no one would really miss her that much anyway,” wrote one Twitter user.

“#RIPJKRowling she (ain’t) dead but her career is,” added another.

“Imagine getting cancelled so hard, we have to pretend that you died,” chimed in someone else.

Other fans were initially confused as to why the R.I.P. hashtag was trending while some even seemed to believe it. One Twitter user was amused that the social-media giant actually had to clarify Rowling was not dead in the trending section explanation.

Reason Jackie O dodged quarantine

Speaking on KIIS FM on Wednesday, Henderson said NSW Health advised her she did not have to self-isolate after travelling from Melbourne despite the NSW government’s mandatory 14-day isolation period.

According to The Masked Singer judge, it was because she had already completed 14 days of hotel quarantine after the coronavirus outbreak shut down filming in Victoria last month.

Speaking to radio co-host Kyle Sandilands, she said she was told that if she had returned to the scene of the outbreak – Docklands studios – she would have had to isolate again.

Host Osher Gunsberg, who also returned to Sydney this week, was in the same boat.

“I was a close contact so I had to quarantine as did pretty much everyone for 14 days,” Jackie explained.

“Now because we’ve quarantined for that 14 days, if we had of at the end of that gone back into our Melbourne studios to film that finale, we would not have been able to return to Sydney without having to do another two weeks’ hotel quarantine because we’ve broken the bubble.”

It comes months on from public outcry over double standards when fellow judge Dannii Minogue was able to avoid hotel quarantine after jetting to Australia from LA.

Unlike the majority of overseas travellers arriving to the country, Dannii didn’t spend 14 days in a state government-mandated hotel – instead bunkering down in a palatial Gold Coast property from when she landed in July.

It prompted social media erupting with claims of preferential treatment, with the star responding that she “went by the book”.

“I wouldn’t ask for a ‘celebrity’ treatment or to have anything special granted to me. I went by the book, I made sure my priority was keeping everyone safe – everyone,” she said.

The last episode of the Channel 10 show on which Jackie and Dannii both star was meant to be filmed two weeks ago but was cancelled just two hours before showtime due to a crew member testing positive to COVID-19.

Seven dancers were proven to be infected after a testing blitz among the crew, with the virus cluster growing to 16 just days later.

All cast and crew were forced to quarantine in Melbourne for two weeks before producers made the decision to allow Jackie O and Osher to return to Sydney, and Urzila Carlson to New Zealand.

But Channel 10 was adamant it would film a grand finale, and last night that became a reality.

Jackie O, along with host Osher Gunsberg, filmed from a Sydney studio, while judges Dannii Minogue and Dave Hughes filmed from Melbourne.

Urzila Carlson, meanwhile, filmed from New Zealand.

“We are ambitiously filming the finale via green screen with people in two different countries, two different states and three different locations and they’re keying us in as if we’re all together in studio,” Jackie said today.

Jackie O spoke about The Masked Singer grand finale on air today. Picture: Supplied.

“Urzila is quarantining in this hotel (in New Zealand) by herself so therefore she cannot have anyone enter her room to help her out with equipment. All she’s been given is some sort of GoPro to put on the top of her computer, she’s got a green sheet behind her and she has to do her own hair and makeup.”

She added of Urzila’s situation: “She did two weeks of quarantine before we started, then she did two weeks of quarantine because she was a close contact and now she’s doing a further two weeks so she’s six weeks quarantine.”

The Masked Singer grand finale is set to air next week.

Aaron Carter set to make live porn debut

In case 2020 wasn’t weird enough, Aaron Carter is set to make his first foray into porn, starring in a live adult cam show on Friday night.

During the show, which will stream live on CamSoda, the 32-year-old “Aaron’s Party” singer will “eat bananas teasingly and peel some with his feet,” a rep for the adult website told Page Six.

The rep also claims, “He will also masturbate for a live audience for the first time ever.”

Carter seemingly confirmed the news on Instagram Friday afternoon, writing, “It’s my first time! Check me out live tonight @camsoda 9pm PST,” although he didn’t go into details about what his performance would include.

Carter is apparently taking cues from his fiancee Melanie Martin, who made her porn debut on the same website earlier this year. However, at the time, a source told Page Six he was “going ballistic” over it.

The younger brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter announced in June that he and Martin were engaged.

“Lövē wins #iloveyou3000 #engaged #fiance #ourlovestory my future Mrs Carter Melanie ♥” he captioned a snap of Martin’s engagement ring.

In another post of the pair kissing, he wrote, “I love you 3000 sweetheart. Everybody deserves a second chance. #LøVëWins”

Aaron Carter appears to be following his fiance into the porn profession

The couple has had a rocky relationship.

In March, two months after they began dating, Carter showed off a new face tattoo with Martin’s first name inked above his right eyebrow.

Later that month, Martin was arrested for felony domestic violence and released on a $US50,000 bond. Martin also allegedly told him she was pregnant before the arrest.

They then announced during a YouTube livestream that Martin had suffered a miscarriage due to “stress conditions.”

A rep for Carter did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.

Netflix’s controversial move amid Prince Harry deal

The streaming giant announced last month it would be streaming a special performance of Diana: A New Musical before it debuts on broadway in May next year, news which was largely welcomed by theatre and royal fans after the live show was postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The move follows in the footsteps of Hamilton the musical dropping on Disney+ in July, proving popular among viewers who haven’t been able to attend the theatre during quarantine.

Diana: A New Musical will be filmed for Netflix this month at a New York theatre without an audience.

But news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signing on with Netflix in a lucrative $150 million deal has shrouded doubt over whether or not Prince Harry will have something to say about the intimate musical to Netflix bosses.

It is understood the musical shows Diana during candid moments in bed, as well as scenes where she is self-harming and her relationship breakdown with Prince Charles.

There are also moments where the Queen is depicted using inappropriate language and referring to Diana as a “tart”.

Diana’s former bodyguard Ken Wharfe, 72, said Harry should intervene and have the “abhorrent” musical stopped from hitting the service.

“The Diana musical, soon to be premiered on Netflix, presents a huge dilemma to them both,” Wharfe said, according to The Sun.

“If the critics are to be believed, this musical story is not a joyous journey of love with a happy ending but an episodic account of untruths, scandal and sex.

“Harry loved his mother dearly and has spoken of her in such loving detail recently.

“He now has the chance, irrespective of his lucrative deal with Netflix, to stand alone from his wife and make clear his abhorrence of such a musical and call Netflix to account.

“If he were to do this, his fading popularity would be guaranteed a huge resurgence.”

Producing the musical are Tony Award-winning writers, Joe DiPietro and David Bryan, with Christopher Ashley, Kelly Devine and Ian Eisendrath directing, choreographing, and providing music supervision and arrangements, respectively.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who moved to California from the UK after stepping back as senior royals in March, have penned a multi-year contract with the streaming giant where they will make documentaries, feature films, scripted television shows and children’s series.

They are reportedly already making their first project, an animated series targeted at women, according to the New York Times.

Meghan and Harry released a statement about their deal, saying their aim was to give a voice to diverse communities.

“Our lives, both independent of each other and as a couple, have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” the pair said in the joint statement.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”

More pressure on Palaszczuk to ease virus rules

It comes as Ms Palaszczuk faces intense pressure and criticism over the State’s border restrictions, which are likely to come to a head at Friday’s national cabinet meeting.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has signalled he wanted borders opened by Christmas saying Australia can’t keep living as a “dislocated nation.”

And Treasurer John Frydenberg lashed out at the premier over the “cruel implications” the border rules have had.

Restaurant and Catering Australia (RCA) and the Queensland Hotels Associations (QHA) say they appreciate how well Queensland has managed the pandemic but are hoping restrictions will be softened in coming weeks if community transmission remains low or is zero.

The AFL grand final will be staged at the Gabba on October 24.

Under stage three restrictions pubs and eateries (greater than 200 sqm) can operate at 25 per cent capacity and, for many restaurants and hotels, they are already at capacity on weekends.

One hotel operator near the Gabba told NCA NewsWire that unless patronage numbers increased for the AFL grand final it would make no difference to their turnover because they are already at ‘capacity’ on game days.

RCA chief executive Wes Lambert said the grand final would benefit the industry but it would have an even greater impact if stage restrictions were loosened.

Restaurant and Catering Australia CEO Wes Lambert would like to see restrictions eased. Picture: Supplied

“Absolutely (we would want restrictions eased), especially if community transmission is low, or zero, to allow businesses to capitalise on the historic occasion,” Mr Lambert told NCA Newswire.

“I think it would be a fitting reward for an industry which has borne the brunt and taken the lead role to keep people safe.”

QHA CEO Bernie Hogan said AFL games staged in southeast Queensland and Cairns this week had already helped the industry slowly get back on its feet.

“Queensland has managed the outbreaks well at this point and depending on health advice, we will continue to work with the government to see how we can take advantage of this opportunity,” he said

Queensland consumer expert Dr Gary Mortimer could see little benefit for restaurants during grand final week unless restrictions were eased considerably.

Many eateries were already booked out on weekends and therefore would not be able to capitalise on footy fans flocking to Brisbane.

“Despite the influx of tourists coming to Brisbane for that weekend it may not achieve its aim or have a net gain for restaurants because they are still limited on numbers,” he said.

“The drawback is the restaurants may not win out … and generally when I’ve been out of late, they have all been booked out anyway.”

The call to ease restrictions follows Network Seven personality Sam Armytage attacking Ms Palaszczuk over her treatment of northern NSW communities that have been severely hampered by border closure.

“She won’t come on the show. I am happy to have it out with her. I am fed up with what’s going on in NSW,” Ms Armytage said on the program.

Moree Plains Mayor Katrina Humphries has pleaded with the Palaszczuk Government to open the border after the NSW border town of Mungindi was left without access to a supermarket or butcher following a fire on Wednesday.

Ms Armytage said she wanted to “have it out” with the Premier while she was interviewing Ms Humphries on Thursday morning.

“My blood’s boiling because of a lot of things she’s (Palaszczuk’s) done lately,” Armytage said.

“You guys have now got no supermarket, no butcher, no food, basically. She won’t come on the show. I’m happy to have it out with her. I’m fed up with what’s going on in NSW.”

“She won’t take Gladys Berejiklian’s phone calls, so I don’t think she’ll take ours.”

Queensland recorded two new cases of coronavirus and has 30 active cases across the state.

Everything to know about Chadwick Boseman’s incredible career

The Black Panther actor battled the illness privately, and has never discussed his cancer in public. His family confirmed the news on Instagram in an emotional statement.

“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman,” the statement read.

“Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.”

WHO IS CHADWICK BOSEMAN?

Boseman is best known for playing the titular character T’Challa/Black Panther in the 2018 Marvel Studios/Disney blockbuster, Black Panther.

It became the first ever superhero film to receive a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, and was the first film in the Marvel Cinematics Universe to win an Oscar. Against a budget of $US 200 million, Black Panther grossed an astronomical $US1.347 billion – making it the 11th highest grossing movie of all time.

Prior to Black Panther, Boseman’s character T’Challa was introduced in MCU’s Captain America: Civil War in 2016.

Boseman subsequently appeared in MCU films as Black Panther including Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and the highest grossing film ever, Avengers: Endgame (2019).

While filming these blockbusters, Boseman was undergoing countless surgeries and chemotherapy in private.

Black Panther/T'Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman, in Avengers: Infinity War.

Speaking about his groundbreaking role in Black Panther, Boseman told Hunger in 2017 he had prayed about portraying the part.

“I had already written about Black Panther in my journals as something that I wanted to do and I had written down certain things that I would like to see in a movie about Black Panther,” Boseman said.

“I’d had people tell me that if there was gonna be a Black Panther movie then I should be the one to play him, so when they called me it was surreal. You pray for something and then it actually occurs, you almost can’t believe it.

“There was no way in the world I was not going to play Black Panther, I had asked for that, I wanted it, and it felt like other people wanted it for me.”

His most recent films were action thriller 21 Bridges (2019) with Sienna Miller and Netflix war drama Da 5 Bloods (2020).

His final film, which is yet to be released and in post-production, is upcoming Netflix drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which is co-produced by Denzel Washington.

Filming wrapped in August last year. It does not yet have a release date.

Boseman plays trumpeter Levee in the film, which is set in Chicago in the 1920s and deals with issues of race, art, religion and will delve into the exploitation of black recording artists by white producers.

Black Panther 2 had been announced for a May 2022 release but has not yet begun production.

EARLY CAREER

Born in 1976 in South Carolina to African American parents Leroy and Carolyn, Boseman graduated from Howard University in Washington in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing.

He got his first television role in 2003, in an episode of Third Watch. His early work included roles in Law & Order, CSI: NY, and ER, as he wrote plays on the side.

Boseman got a big break in 2008 with a recurring role on the television series Lincoln Heights and appeared in his first feature film, The Express: The Ernie Davis Story. He then landed a regular role in 2010 in another television series, Persons Unknown.

In 2013 Boseman was considering giving up acting and focusing on his early dreams of being a director when he scored his debut starring role in the film 42, in which he portrayed baseball pioneer and star Jackie Robinson.

The following year he starred alongside Kevin Costner in Draft Day, in which he played an NFL draft prospect, and backed that up with roles on Get on Up and Gods of Egypt.

He had unsuccessfully auditioned for Drax in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), but this screen test later helped him nab the role of Black Panther.

“Well, sometimes, that’s the way it works as an actor. You go in knowing you’re not gonna get it, but you’re meeting the people that, you know they might be like, ‘It’s not this, but we’ll put him in this other thing’,” he told Jimmy Fallon last year.

“So, I feel like that was one of the moments where they were like, ‘Hey, we could use him later’.”

The family are also asking donations to Dallas Hope Charities, an inclusive and progressive not-for-profit supporting marginalised people in Texas.

Formed in 2008, Riley Gale was a member of Power Trip since the band first burst onto the scene.

The band released two full-length albums, 2013’s Manifest Decimation and 2017’s Nightmare Logic, with compilation album Opening Fire out in 2018, and Live in Seattle released earlier this year.

Tributes for the singer have flowed on social media today, with rapper Ice-T – who had worked with Gale on one of his band Body Count’s recent tracks – telling fans he was “devastated”.

Devastated to hear about Riley Gale’s passing. Power Trip has had a massive impact on the metal community, and Riley’s ferocious drive and passion were such a big part of why. He was a great artist, a good friend, a real one. Metal won’t be the same without him.

Lea Michele gives birth to baby boy

People reports the Glee actress welcomed a son with husband Zandy Reich on August 20.

“Everyone’s happy and healthy, and they’re extremely grateful,” the magazine quoted an insider as saying.

The happy couple were married in a luxurious ceremony in 2019 after they began dating in 2017. Michele was previously engaged to her Glee co-star Cory Monteith, who tragically died of a drug overdose in 2013.

RELATED: Shocking curse that has rocked cast of Glee

It’s some welcome news for the 33-year-old US singer, who was exposed by several of her Glee castmates in June for being difficult to work with.

After Michele supported the Black Lives Matter movement in an impassioned tweet, she received an all-caps response from her co-star Samantha Ware, who said she would “never forget” the “traumatic microagressions” she claims to have received from the star – including a shocking allegation that she had “told everyone that if you had the opportunity you would ‘sh*t in my wig’.”

What followed was an onslaught of accusations against Michele from a slew of her co-stars, which forced her to apologise days later, though Michele was further criticised for failing to be entirely accountable.

“Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times, or whether it was just my immaturity and me being unnecessarily difficult, I apologise for my behaviour,” Michele wrote in a post on Instagram.

Things only got worse when actress Naya Rivera, who was rumoured to be on icy terms with Michele during their Glee filming days, went missing in a lake in southern California.

Her body was found in Lake Piru on July 14, six days after a search began.
