The Aussie star reprises her iconic role of Sharon Strzelecki from Kath and Kim for the lighthearted ad, aimed at reminding Victorians about the state’s strict coronavirus lockdown.

“I am so over this lockdown … but you know what? It’s not the lockdown that’s the enemy, it’s the virus. The sooner we obey the rules, the sooner this will all be over and we can get back to the stuff that really matters,” Szubanski says in the ad.

But once the ad was posted to social media over the weekend, Szubanski has been hit with a social media backlash from “trolls” and “flat out covid deniers”:

Jerry Seinfeld’s hilarious public war of words

The Seinfeld star referred to the club Stand Up NY’s owner, James Altucher, as a “putz” in a scathing New York Times op-ed and gave a passionate argument about “the true greatness of New York City”.

“The last thing we need in the thick of so many challenges is some putz on LinkedIn wailing and whimpering, ‘Everyone’s gone! I want 2019 back!’” Seinfeld, 66, wrote tagging the post, but not acknowledging Altucher by name.

Seinfeld showed no tolerance for the club owner.

“Oh, shut up,” Seinfeld wrote. “Imagine being in a real war with this guy by your side … Wipe your tears, wipe your butt and pull it together.”

Altucher wrote an article published on LinkedIn titled, “NYC IS DEAD FOREVER: HERE’S WHY.”

“Now it’s completely dead. ‘But NYC always bounces back.’ No. Not this time. ‘But NYC is the centre of the financial universe. Opportunities will flourish here again.’ Not this time. ‘NYC has experienced worse’. No it hasn’t,” the comedy club owner wrote before listing reasons to leave the city.

He also included a graphic showing the percentage of people who left Manhattan for other cities during the coronavirus pandemic.

Seinfeld slammed both statements.

“He says he knows people who have left New York for Maine, Vermont, Tennessee, Indiana. I have been to all of these places many, many, many times over many decades. And with all due respect and affection, Are . You . Kidding . Me?!”

Seinfeld was incredulous about many of Altucher’s claims.

“He says, ‘Everyone’s gone for good’,” Seinfeld wrote. “How the hell do you know that? You moved to Miami.

“Yes, I also have a place out on Long Island. But I will never abandon New York City. Ever.”

The legendary comedian also snuck in a jab about Altucher’s business.

“And I have been onstage at your comedy club Stand Up N.Y. quite a few times,” Seinfeld wrote. “It could use a little sprucing up, if you don’t mind my saying.”

Seinfeld continued to gush about New York City, a place he’s called home since 1976.

“The true greatness that is New York City is beyond rare,” he wrote. “It’s unknown. Unknown anyplace outside of New York City. This stupid virus will give up eventually. The same way you have.”

And Seinfeld says he is not worried about the Big Apple post-pandemic.

“We’re going to keep going with New York City if that’s all right with you,” he wrote. “And it will sure as hell be back. Because of all the real, tough New Yorkers who, unlike you, loved it and understood it, stayed and rebuilt it.”

Altucher responded on Twitter on Monday, writing, “I’m glad Jerry Seinfeld took the time from his compound in the Hamptons to write a piece on me without addressing any of the actual problems NYC faces. – some putz from LinkedIn.”

In a follow-up tweet, Altucher said: “Jerry is a good guy but I wish he saw the actual reality of what is happening now. A ranticle will not solve the city’s issues.”

Star reveals unusual monthly habit is key to her happy marriage

The actress and reality star recently appeared on Quibi’s The Rachel Hollis Show where she opened up about her marriage, what she and Phypers do to take time for one another and using a nanny to help out with their kids.

Richards, 49, shares daughters Sam, 16, and Lola Rose, 15, with ex-husband Charlie Sheen. She adopted Eloise Joni, 9, as a single parent before Phypers, 47, began the adoption process as well.

“There’s a lot we can do ourselves, but I can’t do everything on my own and actually it makes me a better parent having the help,” Richards said.

Additionally, the star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills – now streaming on Binge – and her husband take some time off of parenting once a month to spend some quality time with one another.

“In normal circumstances, my husband and I, we take one weekend a month, we go to a hotel, where it’s just us,” she said. “We don’t feel guilty about it and we have our adult time and I think it’s a very important thing for any couple to [know] it’s OK to reconnect and not feel guilty having your household taken care of.”

In fact, the “love for children” shared by Richards and Phypers serves as an inspiration behind their charity, Quantum Reach.

“We decided together to form a foundation for our love of animals and children and it’s Quantum Reach — research education for animal and children health,” she detailed.

“It’s OK to reconnect and not feel guilty having your household taken care of.”

Of course, the status of Richards’ marriage was the subject of speculation after her fellow Housewives co-star Brandi Glanville claimed she had an affair with the Bold and the Beautiful actress.

However, Richards put those rumours to bed in a recent interview with The Washington Post.

“I did not have an affair,” she said. “There’s definitely consistency with the subject matter that comes up on this ‘Housewives’ season, and that’s all I’ll say … If I had an open marriage, I would be open about it.”

Truth behind disturbing unearthed Ellen tweet

But amid the tidal wave of criticisms the talk show host has copped in recent months, this one at least is definitely not what it seems.

“I made one of my employees cry like a baby on today’s show,” she tweeted on June 6, 2009. “Honestly, it felt good.”

Given the horror stories that have emerged about life on-set of The Ellen Show recently, as the tweet started to resurface on social media overnight, many were quick to jump on the star.

But a source told Page Six the tweet was actually made in reference to DeGeneres’ employee Jeannie Klisiewicz, whom the host surprised with a cruise on air during a 2009 episode.

“DeGeneres had hired Klisiewicz in 2008 after she wrote to the show wanting a job. After a year of work, DeGeneres wanted to ‘do something special for her’ because of her positive attitude and because she had entered every contest and never won,” Page Six reports.

Sure enough, the segment in question was uploaded to YouTube on June 6, 2009 – a day after Ellen issued that now-controversial tweet:

The heartwarming segment shows Ellen and Klisiewicz explaining that she was initially a big fan of Ellen’s who had “entered every contest from the beginning of the show for six years” and never won a thing.

Touched by her dedication, DeGeneres made a phone call to Klisiewicz while on air – and ended up offering her a job as receptionist on The Ellen Show. “I liked her so much that we hired her on the spot,” Ellen revealed.

“I think you’re so fantastic. We had no idea you’d be so great – you’re so adorable,” Ellen told her employee, who returned the praise: “She is just as great as everybody thinks she is, I want to say,” Klisiewicz said, before Ellen surprised her with a $3000 cruise.

So, a touching show of generosity from a “great” host – but Ellen’s tweet about the moment has been wildly misinterpreted today:

‘It’s hard’: Star on her ‘perfect’ marriage

Speaking to Body & Soul as this week’s cover star, the actress she finds it “funny” that people think of them as a “perfect couple”.

“It’s been ups and downs, and we still keep working at the relationship. I think a relationship is constant work. It’s not easy,” the Spanish actress, 43, told the publication.

She added that any hardship they’ve encountered has only made their union stronger.

“I always try to see the positives of things.”

Hemsworth, 37, was introduced to Pataky by William Ward, a talent agent in LA, in early 2010. The pair got married just three months later in December.

The actress, author and mum of India, 8, and six-year-old twins Sasha and Tristan, said one such struggle of their early days as husband and wife came as she adjusted to motherhood, admitting she felt “lost” in the new role.

“I remember feeling a bit lost when I had India,” she said.

“I thought my life was going to be the same (when I had kids) and I would keep working. But I couldn’t. Chris would come home and say, ‘How was your day?’ And I didn’t feel proud to say: I’m just a mum. But you should. Because it’s the hardest but greatest job in the world.”

Once Pataky became used to her role as a mother, she decided to hit pause on her career, she said.

“I really liked being with the kids.

“I wanted to take them to school and pick them up every day. I just love that moment. I didn’t grow up with my parents (around) and I missed that so much, so I wanted to give that to my kids.”

“I love acting, but having balance is important to me. So, if something comes along that fits into my life and lets me work close to home, then I’m happy to do it,” she added of her career, hinting we could be seeing her on the screen soon.

Pataky and Hemsworth bought their sprawling hilltop property for $7 million in the chilled coastal town of Byron Bay in 2014.

In May, Hemsworth revealed what prompted their big move from bustling LA to blissful Byron Bay six years ago.

Opening up to GQ, the Avengers star said living in the showbiz epicentre was proving too intense as his career and superstar status began to take off.

Now, it’s hard to imagine the hunky Aussie moviestar and stunning actress, often seen chilling out on the beach with their three children and dog Sunny, living anywhere else.

“You’re a little bit too much in the eye of the storm when you’re living in Hollywood,” Hemsworth said of the move.

“Living in Australia, it’s also easier to detach myself from work – and you get a bit more leeway to let a few emails and phone calls slide on by.”

In November last year, Tidelands actress Pataky released her book Strong, which follows the Spanish model’s “approach to building strength of body and mind” to achieve health and vitality.

Speaking to Body & Soul, she said her interest in health and wellbeing began at an early age, adding that she’s always been interested in keeping fit and healthy.

She said it’s something her and Hemsworth, who launched fitness app Centr last year, have always had in common, and have instilled in their three children.

Harry and Meghan pitch top-secret Hollywood project

According to Variet y, sources have revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been “quietly shopping an idea for a project around town”.

While the concept is still unknown, the couple reportedly took meetings in June and want to serve as joint producers.

The outlet noted that while the idea has been pitched to numerous media companies, the couple shopped their concept to NBCUniversal. Bonnie Hammer, the chairman of NBCUniversal Content Studios, knew Meghan, 39, from her years as an actress on Suits.

Both NBCUniversal and representatives for the couple declined to comment when contacted by Variety. However, a source close to the pair insisted that Meghan “has absolutely no plans to act”.

Meghan’s first job since her return to Hollywood was as a narrator for Elephant, a Disney+ docuseries that premiered in April. The film benefits Elephants Without Borders, an organisation that protects elephants living in Botswana. That gig came after Meghan was spotted chatting with Disney chairman Bob Iger at the London premiere of The Lion King last summer.

A rep from the studio also declined to comment on whether Disney executives spoke to Meghan or Harry, 35, for their newest idea.

In 2019, Harry announced that he was teaming up with Oprah Winfrey for an Apple TV+ docuseries focusing on mental health. Most recently, he made an appearance in a trailer for Netflix’s upcoming documentary, Rising Phoenix, about the Paralympic Games. That movie launches later this month.

According to the outlet, it is unknown if Meghan and Harry met with Apple or Netflix to pitch their project.

They currently reside in Meghan’s native California with their son Archie.

In January, they announced they would take “a step back” as senior members of the royal family and instead work independently, splitting their time between the United Kingdom and North America.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said their decision came “after many months of reflection and internal discussions”.

“We have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” the duo shared on Instagram. “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

“We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages,” they continued.

“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”

Unexpected player at centre of royal rift

Scobie was being interviewed about the new royal biography Finding Freedom for UK TV show Royal Beat where he shared an insight into the brothers’ relationship with their dad, reports The Sun.

Interviewed by Kate Thornton, Scobie discusses the family portrait that was taken to mark the Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday.

Reports suggested that the photo, which featured the Cambridges and Sussexes alongside Charles and Camilla, had been an “absolute nightmare” to shoot because of the deteriorating relationship between Harry and William.

However, Scobie says that it was in fact the brothers’ relationship with their dad which was the issue.

Speaking in the interview, he said: “Someone close to Prince Charles (said) this was a headache to arrange.

“Of course schedules do come into that but the other reason I was given was that the boys have in the past run hot and cold with their father.

“He’s not just their father, he’s also the future king and their boss – he’s the purse keeper.

“There are many political things here which can feed into a very up and down relationship, and it was felt by those at Clarence House that it was a headache to put together.”

In the bombshell book Finding Freedom, the authors revealed how sources added the photo was difficult to arrange because “neither William nor Harry made much of an effort to make themselves available”.

Behind the heir to the throne in the photo, was the grinning Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, with Kate holding Prince Louis who playfully grabs granddad, and Harry and Meghan next to them.

The Prince of Wales was seen sitting on a bench with Prince George on his knee, and the Duchess of Cornwall and Princess Charlotte next to him.

Meghan and Harry’s unofficial biography was co-written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

Meghan, 39, and Harry, 35, have insisted they had nothing to do with the book.

Scobie, who has close ties to Meghan, also said he had not spoken to them directly.

However, the authors’ note in the book says that, “when appropriate” they spoke to “the couple themselves”.

Australian Idol winner’s wild conspiracies

It’s one of several examples of high-profile celebrities promoting the so-called “QAnon” conspiracy theory, whose followers believe that an anonymous individual or group – going by the name of “Q” – has uncovered a secret global cabal of satanic, cannibalistic paedophiles.

Followers subscribe to the baseless belief that Mr Trump is leading a war against these abusers and their “deep state” allies in governments, business and the media worldwide.

The conspiracy has gained traction among Australian social media users in recent months, prompted by theories swirling around global lockdowns that have been promoted by high-profile figures.

Australian Facebook groups and pages focused on the conspiracy theory have gained thousands of new followers this year, with membership in one large public Australian Facebook group spiking nearly 30 per cent in July. Since the start of 2020, that group has added more than 10,000 members.

Instagram pages have also gained thousands of followers, while on TikTok, users have created new hashtags to spread the conspiracy after the platform blocked several of the main hashtags related to QAnon.

Last month, Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci posted a string of QAnon-linked conspiracy theories to her official Facebook page and its 5000-plus followers with the comment: “Sugar coating is for Willy Wonka people’s (sic).”

The post suggested that the royal family was responsible for Princess Diana’s death and were “Satan-worshipping, child traffickers” as well as making claims that the World Health Organisation (WHO) was part-owned by Bill Gates, billionaire financier George Soros and the Rockefeller family.

It added the claim that Trump had “crashed the Fed bank (and) bought all of the gold … meaning that Trump is now the chairman for the global banking system with the people’s money”.

Gauci told one follower that she “can’t take the credit for writing this. I found it and copy and paste it,” also telling another that she had “known for a few years now”.

The now 38-year-old achieved stardom after winning the 2007 series of Australian Idol but had largely disappeared from public view until she resurfaced recently on The Voiceas a contestant.

She told the program she had “lost her way” after the Idol win, but over the past seven years she had built herself “a whole new persona” with the help of “spiritual healing” and meditation.

However Gauci is not the first Australian celebrity to post material including claims and terminology linked to QAnon conspiracies to their followers.

In May, celebrity chef Pete Evans shared two graphics as part of disappearing Instagram posts to his 250,000-plus followers.

One linked “the great awakening” – a catch-all term tied to core QAnon conspiracy theories – to opaque references to a “secret space program” and “inner Earth civilisations”.

Another claimed that a number of high-profile people, including celebrities and politicians, would soon be arrested for “major crimes against humanity” with the stings disguised as coronavirus cases by the media using a series of code words.

Since then, Evans has stopped posting material explicitly linked to QAnon, instead sharing conspiracy-themed material suggesting the COVID-19 pandemic was “a great big set-up”, among other claims, although several of his posts have included references to an “awakening”.

Evans has gained more than 10,000 new followers since he started posting the conspiracies in late May, Storyful found.

Many of the largest QAnon groups on Facebook are private. In recent months, Facebook said it had removed pages dedicated to the QAnon conspiracy theory for violating the same rules against fake personas and inauthentic behaviour used by government influence operations.

“I am not currently sick,” she told her Instagram followers in May. “When you test positive for antibodies it means you had the virus, which I clearly did as I was sick at the end of my tour in Paris over seven weeks ago along with many other artists in my show,” she said.
